This week the Current team met for the first time ever IRL! It’s so amazing to be able to recruit the most talented team around the US and work remotely, but being together in person brings a whole new type of energy. Closing out the year by drinking champagne, listening to live music & strategizing for 2022 was the perfect way to wrap up an incredible year. (Did you listen to the podcast episode about how we 2.5x’d our revenue this year?).
While we were planning the retreat, we knew we had to do a photoshoot while we had everyone together. Not only is it great for content, but we had A LOT of fun doing it — just wait until you see the pics!
A sneak peek here:
Because we don’t see eachother often, we really want to optimize our time by being super strategic about the types of photos, wardrobe, props, poses, content and all of the things so we didn’t leave being like “ugh, we should have gotten that picture”, which is no fun for anyone.
We started planning this photoshoot at least 5 weeks in advance, which we honestly could have used even more time. Typically, we recommend clients reach out to photographers 6-8 weeks prior to working with us, so that we can help style and plan the shoot — YEAH, it’s a big deal!
So, whether you’re in the midst of planning a shoot or know you want one in the new year, use this four steps to help you plan.
This might seem like an obvious step, but the location is key when planning your photoshoot. When planning our retreat, we specifically chose our AirBnb because it matched our vibe and what we wanted to accomplish with our photoshoot, so it was a win-win.
Things to consider when choosing your location:
Does it match your brand vibe?
Is it seasonal? Or pretty neutral?
The variety of background, seating and wall color
The natural light or electrical lighting in the space
Next, you need to figure out what you want the overall aesthetic of your imagery to be and then make a pinterest board to capture this aesthetic. Make sure the imagery, location and colors align with your branding and then choose 2 to 3 outfits that align with this athletic. You can pin outfit ideas to the pinterest board also!
**side note: When you work with us for custom design services we provide on-brand photo ideas for our clients that they can use and give to their photographer so that the photos are inline with the brand we are creating for them!
Get specific! You’ll get the most out of your photoshoot by creating a shot list or imagery ideas (also use Pinterest for this!) Your photographer will appreciate the clear creative direction you’re giving them and you’ll get the most bang for your buck by having a variety of images. We created a shot list for team shots, individual shots, accent shots and “just for fun” shots!
Bring a bottle of champagne, turn on the music & make it a party! Have a genuine good time with your team by creating a fun atmosphere and the photos will reflect this. It makes it less awkward and shows the genuine connection you have with your team!
Thinking about planning your next brand shoot, but don’t know where to start? When you work with us for custom design, we help you with everything from concept to launch meaning everything from messaging, moodboard, color palette, logos, copywriting, photo styling, website design and more! Think of us as an extension of your creative team.
